Hello reptiblr friends! I have a favor to ask.
Many of you know Popcorn, and that she was rehomed to me because her original mommy had another sick corn snake who required a lot of attention. This is that sick corn snake. This is Butters the butter stripe corn snake. He has been sick for quite a while, through no fault of his mom. He’s kept in a clean tank with a UTH (80F warm side, 75F cool side), humidity under 60%, aspen bedding, with hides and constant access to water. The set up and the husbandry is not the problem. His mom is doing literally everything to care for him, and is just so desperate for answers she’s asked me to post this asking for help.
He’s about four years old, and should be much chubbier, we understand.
Here’s where the problem started:
Back in August of 2014 his mom went out for several days after feeding him. While she was gone he regurgitated his food on the warm side of the tank, and it started to rot. She came back and immediately put him in a new set up (new tank and everything) and left him alone so he could have a chance to rest. He has not eaten solid food since then, despite her trying. He started to lose weight dramatically, his lowest weight was ~100g (keep in mind he’s a four year old babe). He’s been to vets where he was tested for parasites (negative), crypto (negative), and has had no exposure to other snakes. He’s had blood tests which were all normal except for slightly elevated white blood cell count. He’s also had two oral abscesses drained (now gone), and was on a three week course of antibiotics for that. He was originally tube fed on AD diet and put on weight, and started vomiting the food back up. Then he was on Flukers for a bit, as of recently he’s on Carnivore Care - 8-10mL twice a week per vet’s orders. Because of his weight fluctuation he’s also had problems with incomplete sheds.
The vet has hinted that because he is a morph he may have some genetic abnormalities. This soft lump in his tummy is the newest development in this strange series of events. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any ideas on what it could be? The weather here is terrible and we can’t really get to a vet.
We think it looks like an impaction, but seeing as how he’s on an all liquid diet it seems somewhat unlikely. Another possibility is fluid build up due to heart failure. Any ideas at all are appreciated, either through asks or reblog! Thank you so much we’re both so thankful
