I recently bought a snake. The problem is he won’t eat his food. I just dropped a mouse in and he is just cuddling with it. The mouse is fine but I don’t know what to do. 😔 Snake side of tumblr can you help me out.

Okay so your ball python is just too stressed to eat. Rule number one if he doesn’t eat in 15 minutes REMOVE THE RAT IMMEDIATELY. If you don’t it stresses the snake further which worsens the problem.

Check all of your parameters; 80 degree cool side, 88-90 degree hot spot, 55-60% humidity (That can be raised to 75% during sheds only). I used to have a BP and I know humidity here in Texas is hard to maintain so I covered the top of the screen in plastic wrap and that helped, along with mistings. You just have to make sure you open him up daily for ventilation.

As far as getting him to eat you just need to wait 6 to 7 days or longer (when you feel he will feel comfortable eating) and offer food again. If he doesn’t eat, repeat the process. After a month or longer of not eating, then you can worry. Remember BP’s are not considered beginner snakes by most simply because they do this crap all of the time, don’t sweat it. Do a ton of research. If even you can’t help after that amount of time, then it’s time for a vet.
